Want to relive Thursday night’s MLB Field of Dreams game?
Thanks to the video game “MLB The Show 21,” you can.
The popular PlayStation video game franchise announced an update this week that will allow players to download the Field of Dreams ballpark in Dyersville, Iowa, to use as a stadium to play games in the video game.
In a PlayStation blog post, the company explained the meticulous process of creating the Dyersville ballpark in the video game, which began at the start of the year.
“Ultimately, our designers aimed to create a playable, in-game replica that gives the Field of Dreams the respect it deserves and is something that we, the fans, and the Players would be proud of,” the blog post reads, in part.
Players can play with any two teams in the video game’s Field of Dreams park. But, Thursday night in real-world Iowa, the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 9-8 in a back-and-forth, exciting game that featured eight home runs, including Chicago shortstop Tim Anderson’s walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth.
Before the game, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred told reporters there would be another Field of Dreams game in Dyersville next year, although he wouldn’t say which teams will play. The game will likely be played in August 2022.
