Mental health issues addressed in movie debut by former Dallas Cowboy

Former Dallas Cowboys player Greg Ellis will premiere a sneak peak of movie project “My Dear,” at the Irving Arts Center as the Irving Black Arts Council begins its 34th season Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.

The event begins with a VIP reception, followed by 6:45 p.m., panel discussion and 7:30 p.m., movie sneak peak. Tickets are $12.50 to $50 or can be purchased by calling 972-252-2787.

Ellis, a Cowboys defensive end from 1998 to 2008, is credited as writer and director of a film that addresses mental health awareness. “My Dear” tells the story through the eyes of a professional football player and his family, as they are affected by untreated mental health problems.

“I wanted to be a part of something that is bringing awareness and attention to mental health issues,” Ellis said.

Sybil Wilkes from The Tom Joyner Morning Show & Black America Web, will moderate the panel discussion. Ellis launch a new mental health website.
