The surprising development that Kumar Rocker will not sign with the New York Mets will leave the franchise with draft pick compensation in 2022.

The Mets will get the 11th pick in the 2022 draft as compensation, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported. Rocker will forgo returning to Vanderbilt and begin his pro career. He is now draft-eligible for 2022.

As previously reported, an apparent elbow injury threw a wrench in the negotiations.

Rocker is coming off of a standout junior season. Rocker made first-team All-SEC this season, posting a 14-4 record and 2.73 ERA in 122 innings over 20 games.

There’ll be likely more details come out about this in the coming days and Rocker’s next season will be closely watched.
