There’s new outdoor public gathering space in Tigard.
Universal Plaza, hailed as “a place for everyone” in downtown of Tigard “that celebrates our shared humanity and our one shared planet,” was unveiled to the public Saturday morning with ribbon cutting ceremony, music, food carts, vendors and other amenities welcoming the hundreds who came to see the new space.
The completion of the first phase of the plaza includes oversized porch swings greeting guests as they arrive, two green spaces, Tigard’s first splash pad, a bike and pedestrian path and boardwalk overlooking Fanno Creek, two food carts — Harvest Moon Experience and West Coast Torta Company — a shelter for vending and storage and a four-stall bathroom with hand-washing station.
The second phase of the public plaza, to be constructed at a later date, will add an overhead canopy to provide shelter from the rain and sun, as well as a community room.
The plaza will host community events, the Tigard Farmers Market, year-round food carts and more.
