Reliant Energy, city of Dallas to distribute free air conditioning units for South Dallas residents

Reliant Energy is partnering with the city of Dallas to improve living conditions for South Dallas residents who are facing Texas’ sweltering summer heat.

As part of the annual Beat the Heat program, Houston-based Reliant Energy and Dallas will distribute free portable air conditioning units and coolers at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and the West Dallas Multipurpose Center, 2828 Fish Trap Road, from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday. The program provides resources for vulnerable Dallas-area residents to stay cool and receive financial assistance for their electricity bills during summer’s hottest days.

Registration is required, and resources are limited. Residents can call the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center at 214-670-8418 or the West Dallas Multipurpose Center at 214-670-6341 to apply for a portable air conditioning unit.

Dallas-area residents can also reach out to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1819 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and request a free window air conditioning unit. Those who meet the criteria have until Aug. 31 to request one.
