NFL officials made a lot of noise around the NFL in Week 5 thanks to some questionable calls, one of which occurred in the Tennessee Titans’ victory over the Washington Commanders.
Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons was called for a questionable roughing the passer penalty during the game, one of many controversial such calls made this season.
As a whole, we’ve seen many games impacted by questionable officiating in 2022, and the Titans have been no stranger to that trend.
So, when the NFL emailed general managers and coaches its weekly video on officiating, Vrabel did something rare: he decided to ‘reply all’ to the e-mail, sending his response to the league and everyone else in the group.

Here’s what Vrabel’s email said, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
I appreciate the time and energy that goes into these videos, but I suggest we devote every minute of our officiating departments’ time ensuring our officiating crews are as well trained in the clarifications we worked to create in the off season and that each crew is as consistent as possible. Thank you.
Hard to argue with Vrabel, as officials have often struggled with consistency — and clarification of calls has been an issue as well.
It remains to be seen whether the situation will improve, but Vrabel’s email does display the level of frustration teams have with the situation.
